CHALLENGES OF THE GLOBAL INFORMATION SOCIETY REVIEW

Pekka Himanen made research about the challenges around information society. This documents examine recent issues that should be taken into consideration by the society and government for their future beneficial development.

First, I would like to reflect on a few of the ten main global trends.

1. Estonia, even if I haven’t been living here for a while, is a digital country with promising low taxes for IT companies. For this reason, Estonia became famous for innovation.

3. Population ageing is a valid problem in Europe, especially in the east where the economy is weaker.

5. Bullet point 5 was Pekka’s most important prediction for me since if we look around, we are already in the second phase of the information society. In the 2010s, people started to realize the importance of their data and how the companies are using it.
Nowadays social matters in IT are more advanced problems instead of development.

9. Lastly, the global divide is becoming an enormous problem nowadays. IT Giant’s are buying small vendors day by day, making them unable to enjoy the free market and to bring innovation.
Conflicts between IT Giant’s can affect International Politics, like Google and Huawei.

Development scenarios introduce three social models, which are still valid in the 2020s.
Pekka claim’s USA has the upper hand and China is rapidly growing, while Europe is behind.
I have to say places are turned and in my opinion, China is on the top following the USA and then Europe. Although, I think the European model is the best and the most ethical.

It is why Europe has most of the ten mentioned reform values in its Information Society Model.
I do not want to reflect on all of these, since I agree with them all and I am proud to be a part of it and that I can say we are in the state of “Visionariness Courage”.

The basis, high-quality education system describes the importance of free information and the importance of quality education. Nowadays more and more Engineers, specialized people are needed to plan, maintain and make innovations. In the whole world studying in a University is becoming more and more natural, which takes a huge part in the world's development.

Honestly, I did not expect this article to be so exciting and that it can predict so many things from back in 2004. I can only recommend this article to everyone!
